Do you know that there is an actual category in the game for gender? There are of course Males and Females but there is one more category of Neutal for monsters with multiple people (Daikoku).
This week we will feature monsters that confused you with their gender in the game. I don't mean monsters that were genderbend like Napoleon. I mean monsters that you thought were a female but it was actually male or vice versa.
#5 - Pizarro (Female)
At number 5 is Pizarro, a Farmable 4-5* monster from the Eternal Epic Series. She is classified as Female although looking very manly. Even the Base form doesn't show much female features and she even wore a crown fit for a King.
Unlike the 4-5* monster from the same series, Beowolf (Female), most players won't know Pizarro is a Female because they never used her.
#4 - Okita Soji (Male)
#4 is Okita Soji who is a Male. A lot of strikers think Okita is a Female due to the hair arrangement in his Base and Evo form. Also his voice in dungeons and SS sounds like a child before he hit puberty so it is hard to tell.
#3 - Light Expie (Female)
#3 is the Light Expie. All the Light EXP turtles are Female. Of course it is not hard to tell that they are Females but she earned this #3 spot with the "Why" factor.
Most Expie monsters are Male, even including the Valentine Expie. It would have been cool if there are two or three elements who are Females but why only one!?
#2 - Deneb (??)
#2 is Deneb from the Operation Stardust series. Deneb is the master of disguise so Evo is Male and Asc is Female. But what is Deneb's real gender?
I looked into the MS Certified Database App created by Appbank (iOS/Android). Deneb was classified as Neutral! This should be the most confusing monster since to this day, we don't know if Deneb is Male or Female. However, she is only #2 since there is a monster even more confusing!
#1 - Baldr (Male)
Finally at #1 is Baldr who is a Male. He is pretty confusing since both forms have him with really long hair and a young face. But what really takes the cake and the real reason why he is #1 is the name.
For NA players, Evo Baldr is called "Goddess of Light, Baldr". Yes, he was translated as Goddess, not God. In the JP version, it is called "光の神 バルドル". 神 (kami) can be referred to either God or Goddess. Therefore, Baldr is so gender confusing that the localization team named him Goddess.
Honorable Mentions
Mr. Ice (Female)
Just like Baldr, her name implies that she is male even though she is female. However, in the JP version, she is called "Iceman" so there might be some kind of Mulan-ish backstory to that monster.

Arthur is one of the more confusing genderbend monsters in Monster Strike. She looks more male than female. However she only gets a Honorable Mention because everyone knows by now that she is a she.
How Was It?
Another week went by and this was totally different from last week's Top 5
If you have any monsters that confused you by their gender, or if you want to share the story when you heard a monster's correct gender, comment below!
I have a hard time with Shana-oh Yoshitsune. :) Great list though!
ReplyDeleteI think the Japanese developers have an easier time feminizing non-Japanese historical figures like Napoleon or King Arthur. They would probably get a lot of flack if they feminized beloved figures of Japanese history or legend like Saigo Takamori, Ryoma Sakamoto or Yamato Takeru. The exception is Oda Nobunaga who is considered in popular culture, and by historians, as kind of a jerk.
